Visitation/custody rights if you never legally adopted a stepchild?

Austin S asked:
My brother-in-law and his wife may be getting a divorce after 5 years of marriage. She had a child before she met him, with another man. She was never married. My brother-in-law never adopted the child so that they could continue to collect child support from the biological father. If they go through with the divorce, would he have any legal rights for visitation or joint custody or in legal terms is he a complete stranger to the child?

I’m getting a divorce and our 2 children are going to be living with him as I would not be able to provide for them with no job. He’s been the only one working for years. I will be living with my aunt. If he is granted custody, what are the options, after getting back on my feet of getting custody of them.
Thank you.

My wife filed divorce 2 years ago. The judge ordered 50/50 custody and ordered me to pay child support. Since then, we’ve been working things out and neither of us have persued completing the divorce in over a year.

How do we stop the divorce, and do we have to go back to court to stop the child support?
Also, if we split up again will he have to fight for custody all over again?

I have two kids, one of them is 13 years old and the other is 15 years old. Me and my wife has been having marital problems for years. She has a history of abandoning me and the kids, then coming back. The last time she left, she attacked my daughter, which Children Protective Service then got involved. They decided not to take the kids, due to she had left the home the night before they came, and my daughter feels safe since she has left. Now I found out she has commited adultery with her bestfriend boyfriend. Do I have a good chance of winning custody of my children in court? Help!!
