Yes, a single parent that has custody of their child over 50% of the time is entitled to live in base housing.

Yes, and if you have to deploy, they will allow your mother or mother in law to come live in your housing to take care of the child.

yes you can, but i’ve heard it can vary from branch to branch. i was active duty air force and there were single moms, but then i have heard in the marines they will kick you out…..just have to ask..

Sure, I went active duty from the reserves as a married person, but then propmptly divorced my hubby and lived in the barracks until I got housing for my kids, thats a whole nother story, email me if you want it. You must be married or give custody of your child to someone while you go thru basixc and AIT or you await housing for your kids. I was a single parent after my divorce for a long time, the only problem I had was that daycare closes at 6PM and sometimes they wanted to work me past 6PM and being a printer, sometimes we worked weekends and 24 hour ops, with no daycare on weekends or at night. Now being Navy, you may be doing tours on a boat and you will have to have your mother or sister or someone you trust take care of yur child or a 24 hr daycare person (lots of $$$$$) take care of the child during these times. so this is soemthing to think about. If you are absolutely sure you will be living on base and not do tours on a boat or sub, each time you move form base to base, you will have to wait on housing, their is always a waiting list, so you will have to rent during these times and the military will give you the money for that, but then when you get housing, you will not get the rent money in your pycheck anymore. so moving to a new base, you will move twice, unless you just live off post, that is an option to.

You should be able to keep base housing as long as you have primary custody. To qualify, a military member must have a dependent living with them the majority of the year. A parent who only sees the child on weekends and for vacations would not qualify to remain in base housing unless they had other dependents living with them permanently.

yes you can have custody as long as the court awards it and if the child is with you more than 50% of the year you will qualify for housing. You will have to have a Family Plan set up for when you are on duty or deployed.
