Athena asked:
Is there anyone who has gone through a child custody case?
What should I expect when going into my hearing for Child custody? I’m very nervous
First the dad states that he is not the father of my child on the child support summons and then a few days later he motions for joint custody and to take my child out of the country. He is from another country. We had mediation where he argued with the mediator because she denied his request to go out of the country and then she recommeded six months of supervised
visitation. I don’t have a lawyer at this point

It really depends on the circumstances of your particular case. I think we’d need to know a little bit more about your situation before anyone could tell you what to expect.
As a generic answer, you can expect to have an opposing attorney or opposing party basically trying to discredit anything you say.

If it’s in a Divorce, you should expect to be slandered mercilessly.
The judge will probably talk to your kids. Make sure they don’t ‘parrot’ negative comments you’ve made about your ex.
If it’s Child Protective Services, you should expect to lose your children for at least a little while, unless you already have a lawyer with a well-prepared case.
The only hope you have is to tell the Judge you will immediately do anything she orders or even suggests, just please, in the best interest of the children, leave them with their loving mother while you prove yourself.
The judge can leave them with you, but make them wards of the court.
No matter what, ALWAYS:
Bring pictures of your clean and lovely home, and notarized letters from your minister and everyone at the church, neighbors, teachers…anyone.
Bring pictures of the kids happy with you.
Make four copies of all documents and serve them to the other party and the Judge before court starts.
Attest that you will best facilitate a positive relationship between the children and the other parent, and you will never say a bad thing about the other parent to the children.
Most importantly?
GET A LAWYER.
Now.
Wishing you the best…
