How would I go about filing for a divorce if I have no idea where my husband is?

We have been separated for about 11 years and I have no idea where he is. I think he may have already filed for a divorce but we don’t know where each other are how do I know for sure?

You could try consulting a divorce lawyer.

Just file. If he’s not around the divorce will be granted pretty quickly.

You would file with your local county. They will try to locate him - it’s usually for a specific amount of time - say, 6-12 months depending on the state, and if they can’t find him then it is granted.

You should talk with an attorney. My cousin divorced his wife when she left him and split town. Don’t know how he did it.

Check with a lawyer in your state. In my state you do not have to know where the other person is or get their permission, so to speak. Either one can file and once granted you are no longer married.
You need to determine what the law is pertaining to you.

File it in abstentia and explain you cannot locate him. They should have forms for this. Good luck. You may be asked his family information for them to try and locate him and it will probably take longer than a normal divorce.

Yeah if you go ahead and file and he’s no where to be found the judge will grant you a divorce and he could possibly grant it on grounds of abandonment. My dad divorced his 2nd wife and didn’t know where the hell she was. lol.
