divorce
nickii asked:

My husband and I are currently separated but I have spoken to him about a divorce. He says he will sign anything that is needed.

Can anyone tell me the steps to filing for a divorce and making everything final?

Can I fill out the forms and just take them down to the court without getting a lawyer?

We do not own a house or have any kids.

Thanks!!

yes, you can do all of this but it takes much longer; based on your simple divorce it would be beneficial to get an inexpensive attorney to do this work for you..you can find one around $400-$600. pay in installments…

Laws are different from state to state but for the most part you can go to the courthouse yourself and take out the needed papers to start the proceedings. As long as there are no disputes about property/assets you should be able to go through the whole divorce without a lawyer. On the other side of the coin it’s always best to have a lawyer for times like this.

    Good luck

you will need a parileagle to fill out the forms for you and then you make 3 copies of them. 1 is for you records and one is for the court and ne is for your soon x to be. take all of the forms to the cleark of courts in your county court house and have them file them to set up a court date. if their is no childern and no property to settle between the 2 of you it will be simple and nothing for you to fight over. you will be taken before a refree and he will deside on the matter. but you will have to appear for you are the one that has filed. it uselly cost 10 buck per sheet of paper and the court cost and filing of the papers. all in all i’d say right around 250.00 buck and you free again. and that not to much if you really want out of the relationship good luck

When the two of you can come up with an agreement on everything without a lawyer - you can get divorced pro se. Start by browsing the web for pro se divorce. You will learn the steps to take with the courts - and get an idea of how the papers should be drawn up. If you both agree on everything - then it should be a fairly simple process.

Yes, you can complete the paperwork yourself if you don’t want a lawyer, or you can use an online preparation service (my friend used one & said it was quite simple and very stress free).

You basically fill out the paperwork, decide on who gets what, file the papers at the court house then they’ll provide you a court date. The problem is, if you do it alone, and you have questions the Clerks at the court are NEVER willing to give you any help - they basically tell you you’re on your own. That’s why my friend did the online thing. Here’s the site in case you want to check it out:
    Hope this helps
